Last week, I introduced Grodner Group client Full Life Ahead Foundation to the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama’s (HICA) leadership. Full Life Ahead helps those with disAbilities develop personalized teams of families and friends to provide support in creating and implementing transitional life plans. A bit of a customized “it takes a village” concept. One of the tools Full Life Ahead uses to assist their clients with transition planning is through a detailed workbook. And now one of the challenges Full Life Ahead faces is holding an inventory of this same workbook in Spanish.

HICA — dedicated to the social, civic and economic integration of Hispanic families and individuals in Alabama — has an energetic (and connected) executive director in Isabel Rubio. So while there would not seem to be an obvious fit between the two groups, I knew Isabel would point Full Life Ahead in the right direction. She did not disappoint. Isabel told Full Life founder Judy Barclay of a national umbrella organization of Hispanic organizations with an upcoming conference in July, a real opportunity to share the message of Full Life with a wider audience and also to sell a few of the workbook’s Spanish versions.

That is one of the things I love about running The Grodner Group that also provides a lesson to any business or community leader. Think about your contacts and relationships in new ways and how they can work together to accomplish the greater good. Being a business “yenta” (matchmaker) even if it does not benefit you directly at that moment can often reap big future rewards for those you connect, the strength of your network and potential future business, regardless of your profession. And it can also make you feel pretty good at the end of the day.
